Case Study on Praise: David and the return of the Ark     

Read Scripture Sections: 2 Samuel 6:9-23 & 7:1-16

Introduction: The story of the ark’s return to the City of David illustrates some important aspects of praise. David was a man and King very well associated with a lifestyle of praise. Many Christian men and women have fallen away from meaningful praise of God. Men seem to struggle with it more so due to pride and control issues that we have. In this story, David shows us an excellent picture of meaningful praise and worship, that will help us in our personal praise and worship of God.

Conclusions:

  1. Although we may feel uncomfortable, God loves it when we worship and praise Him.
  2. For David, dancing in front of his nation was the ultimate form of humility and God honored his sacrifice of dignity and royalty (6:21-22). God responds to the humble heart.
  3. Key concept: Our worship and praise are before the Lord (6:21-22); when we realize who God is, all concerns of embarrassment melt away.
  4. Despising authentic worship, can be unhealthy!
